Biography
Cheikha Sigil is a Senegalese stylist and designer.
In 1995 he created the “Keur Gui” workshop which in 2004 allowed him to create the SIGIL brand, “raise your head” in Wolof. He was the winner in 2005 of the “Silver Ciseau” at the Ciseaux d’or competition in Senegal and selected for the “Africa is fashion” program launched by the Française d’Action Artistique Association (Afaa) during the last African Fashion International Festival, organized in November 2005 from Alphadi to Niamey, Cheikha was awarded the same year with the Men’s Designer Grand Prix at the International Festival of Young Designers in Dinard, France. He also won the first SIRA Vision 2006 prize for Young Designers.
Recognized for his talent as a designer even by the elders of the Dakar fashion world, Cheikha now wants to conquer the foreign market. France, Italy and even the United States are included in its ambitious plan to expand the “Sigil” line. Among other things, he is an exhibition curator and deals with installations and film making. His workshops are located at Espace Medina Dakar in Senegal.
